Binghamton: May 29, 1830 - Present
Binghamton - 1854 Scarce PAID 1 in circle:
BINGHAMTON/SEP/21/N.Y. 30mm Black "B" close to "N" CDS with black 20mm "PAID/1"
in circle. This is only the second reported usage of this
type of "PAID/1 in circle per Wilcox. The other was from
July 31, 1854. The 1 cent prepaid the rate for a local
(drop) letter effective June 30, 1851.
Binghamton - 1855 PAID with Hollow 3:
BINGHAMTON/DEC/29/N.Y. 34mm Black "B" close to "N" CDS with black "PAID/3",
with Hollow 3 (Type 32). This is the latest reported usage
of this type of "PAID/3" per Wilcox. This is also a new
latest reported date for this type of black CDS. The
previous was December 5, 1855. The 3 cents paid the 1/2
ounce letter rate for 3000 miles effective April 1, 1855.
Binghamton - 1856 Dateless CDS With Integral PAID: Only Reported Usage
BINGHAMTON/PAID/N.Y. 30mm Black dateless CDS with integral "PAID" on printed
circular from the Office of Peoples's College. This is the
only reported usage of this type CDS per Wilcox. Paid the
1 cent prepaid rate for up to 3 ounces for printed matter
effective August 30, 1852. Unpaid, the rate would have
been doubled to 2 cents. The circular appears below.
Binghamton - Late 1856 or Early 1857 DROP/1 ct.
DROP/1 ct. 20mm Black DROP/1 ct. in circle on locally mailed printed
circular regarding the Fifth Annual Pioneer and Historical
Festival to be held 24th day of February, 1857.
This is only the second reported usage of this type handstamp
per Wilcox. Paid the 1 cent rate for local (drop) letters
effective March 3, 1855. The circular appears below.
